Example of using steel bar in concrete (choose your own example including picture/drawing/sketch).
*Steel bar is the reinforcing bar used in the concrete as a tension member to improve the tensile properties of the concrete.
As concrete is weak in tensile strength, embedment of steel bar provides extra tensile strength to the whole concrete structure. Which is called as reinforced concrete.
*The purpose of using steel bar in concrete is just because the coefficient of thermal expansion is nearly equal to that of concrete.
*Steel bars usually comes in 10,12,16,20,25,28,32,,36,40,50 and 60mm in diameter which are used based on the requirements
*As explained above , the concrete alone cannot withstand more loaf for long period of time and so as improve the strength the steel bars are provided. Because it provides to bond with concrete, high torelence of tensile strain, and durability is also high.
It's helps in withstanding high stresses.
*Prestressed concrete-in this case the tendons made up of high tensile steel in the form of wires are used to prestress (compress) the concrete by tensioning the tendon.
This results in better structural capacity and servicebility of the structure compared to the conventional reinforced concrete. This method is most commonly used in bridges, flyover, etc.
