Personal reflective feelings about Assessment in higher education
Assessment is a central component of the education system today. Evaluation serves as a system for evaluating and comparing performance between different populations and different spectrum. However, it can sometimes be difficult to keep in mind the actual purpose of evaluation with so many different types of assessment (and often needed) for so many different organizations available nowadays.
Continuous evaluation provides everyday feedback on the process of learning and education. Evaluation can enhance teaching and learning effectiveness. It also promotes the understanding of teaching as a formation process which develops with feedback and input from students over time. This creates a strong relationship between classes. Student evaluations are required because:
The teacher may want to examine understanding by means of a formative assessment throughout a lesson or unit.
Students who have difficulties with learning should take
advantage of a screening test to diagnose concerns such as
difficulties with reading comprehension, incapacity to remember
written or spoken speech, trouble listening or communicating and
concerns with hand-eye coordination.
After studying a subject, students generally perform a summative
evaluation. The teacher can determine its performance level and
provide feedback on its strengths and weaknesses. Teachers will use
the data from the evaluation to build a remediation plan for
students who have no knowledge of the subject or skills.
