in what ways will future technological development increase inequality? in what ways will technological development reduce inequality?
Technological development
The future development in technology has both positive and negative
effects affecting inequality. The effects differ in various
sectors. Also, region, the method of adaptation etc. can further
make the technological impact on the society and the equality thus
created.
Future technological development can create inequalities in sectors
where the advancements of technology can reduce the scope of human
labor or human capital. Rather than the areas where technology
could help increasing the efficiency of human labor, it may
completely remove the role played by human in the sector. Self
driven cars which could have a tremendous change in the sector may
reduce the labor done by drivers. This creates an inequality where
the same product, self driving cars can effectively increase the
benefits for producers and the owners. Considering a private owned
cab service firm like Uber can reduce the part played by drivers in
the sector. This can create a chance of high inequality by the
development achieved by technology. Also, the problems of unequal
development can create structural inequality in technology. Urban
areas will benefit more from the development of technology where
rural areas are lagging behind from enjoying the advantages that a
technological development could provide.
The access to different concepts including education, knowledge and
etc. from technological development is an example of reduced
inequality. The reduction in cost of purchase of materials for
knowledge and etc. are effective by the development made by
technology. The increased efficiency of labor productivity
increases the return for labor which has high impact on reducing
inequalities in the society. Reducing the efforts which increase
the capabilities of human has great effects in reducing
inequalities by technological development.
