Optical fiber as a guided media, what is the future and new technological advances of optical media? What are characteristics of data rate, and maximum distance of optic fiber and are there any limitation or concerns with the use of this media
Future and new technical advances:
Even though it is very expensive, there is competition from HDs to the cloud in the use of optical media. There is expected huge growth in this technology. Its use in the archival market for storage is also increasing. There are also many media management deals and packages in scalable robotics. It has been used in many other fields as well. However, its use in sports, disaster recovery, and news is also going to increase soon.
Characteristics of data rate:
The data rate depends on what type of data is to be written using this technology. If blu-ray is considered, 36 Mbit/s is the defined data rate. Similarly, other uses of the media offer standard base rate.
Maximum distance:
As per typical transmission speed and keeping all the distance limits in mind, 2km is the perceived distance for 100 Mbit/s, 1000 m for 1 Gbit/s, and 550m for 10 Gbit/s.
Limitations:
