It was difficult to stand on one leg due to excessive stimulation of the vestibular organs.
1. What does that mean? What is the excessive stimulation of the vestibular organs. How or why there is excessive stimulation?
It was difficult to stand on one leg due to excessive stimulation of the vestibular organs because the sensory information about the body's equilibrium and spatial orientation was provided by the vestibular stimulation since the person was standing on only one leg.
The vestibular system is the apparatus of the inner ear which is involved in balance. It is responsible for spatial orientation and balance. It is the reason behind a person's ability to stand, move without falling, focus vision on a single object while the head is in motion.
Vestibular stimulation is the input that the body receives as a result of movement or gravity. In the above case, it was due to gravity that the excessive stimulation was taking place. Excessive stimulation of the vestibular organs lead to an overload of stimulus to the brain leading to an inability to concentrate thereby making it difficult to achieve the task.
