how does David mccullough's speech "you are not special" support the argument that people in general should avoid ethnocentrism
Ethnocentrism is taking pride in the values and norms of one's own culture, and judging others cuktucu to be of substantard. It is valuing and judging others through the lens of one's culture to which the individual belongs. David McCullough's speech "You are not special" promotes humanity. It promotes the idea that people should consider themselves humans, and also, others as their fellow beings, than tagging them in different categories and judging. It emphasizes that individuals achievements should not be for personal gains, but for the gain of each and every person of this society, no matter what their statuses are and to which culture they belong. It encourages individuals to take a more broader perspective that would enable them to embrace the different colors of nature, society and their own life, and thus add more meaning and fruitfulness in their life. For this, one has to rise above the bindings of ethnocentricity and value each equally.
