PREPARING YOUR FIRST SPEECH

How are you feeling as you are preparing your first speech?    What communication tips are helping you to reduce any anxiety? Are you allowing yourself plenty of time to prepare and practice? What will be your preparation process for this week's assignment?

For me it depends. If the speech is a very organized speech, lots of PowerPoint slides, prepared notes, etc., then when I go out to give it I feel very confident. Preparation makes a lot of difference in your level of trust, as you understand (or at least believe you understand) that you are the specialist you are presenting on the topic. On the other hand, when I have to deliver an impromptu speech, I'm less confident about what I'm about to say and where the presentation is going, even a little nervous, but I also understand that most of the moment your audience is rooting to make you succeed.

You want your speech to flow like a river, and if you don't take the time to prepare for it, it won't happen. This is not an simple objective, but it is possible to do it. Start by setting the time to assemble your piece aside. Go on with jotting down points that you want your audience to get across. Then logically organize them, so they naturally flow from one to the next. After that you can blend in something else to keep the attention of your audience: stories, illustrations, and props, such as pictures, and videos in your slideshow.

You understand what to speak about at this stage, but another story is how to get it across to your audience. First, when you talk, you need to understand who will listen. Know your crowd to put it another way. Find ways to get to know your audience. Go with them to be intimate. Dig up their eccentricities, their desires, their aches and their pet peeves. What do they die for learning, hearing, or talking about? What are the interests of them? Be conscious of the bracket of their era. Demographics is an essential component of your audience discovery

Go and check the place where you're going to talk. Be familiar with the location. Get to understand the size of it. You will be able to prepare your motions wisely by understanding the sizes of the region.

The site's measurements are directly proportional to your movements and gestures. Big locations involve broad motions and large gestures. Small rooms require the contrary. You'll need to schedule big hand gestures and body movements in a enormous room, otherwise you're not getting your audience involved.

Make sure your favourite outfit is groomed and looks crisp. You're feeling good when you look good. On the other side, if you prefer a casual look and it is suitable for your case, go for a non-formal look. It will create you feel more comfortable and engaging with an audience that is just as casual. Initially, audiences judge you on the basis of looks, so create an additional effort to order respect and trust.
