What experiences have you personally had with the ways in which cultural capital determines consumption?
I have received the cultural capital from my parents and that can determine the consumption. I was born into a middle-class family and that made me familiar with the daily struggles of life. My parents taught me how to deal with them and face them without any hesitation. This educated me a lot and I also studied with the students with a similar family background. When I moved abroad to study and work, I was aware of the value of money and how the poor must be treated respectfully. I also had the habit of learning different languages and this was because my parents spoke different languages. This helped when I moved to Europe and I started learning French in my school. My parents also gave a lot of importance to the external appearance and they always made me look good enough to be among the upper-middle-class section of the society. I was able to adapt to the rich culture in easily when I moved there. I was aware of what should be worn for different occasions and it made me feel confident. These are some of the experiences I have with the cultural capital and how it determines the consumption.
