Reflection on interesting concepts and how Prosocial Behavior and Altruism relate to your lived experiences today.
2. How might these two be is important and relevant to you.
Prosocial behavior and altruism have been around us whether we notice it or not. From a stranger helping you to maybe pick up your store grocery which has fallen, or you guiding an old lady cross the street-are all instances of acting from a sense of gratitude and wellbeing towards others without expecting anything in return. We also experience Altruism-the highest form of prosocial behavior when we have soldiers laying down their lives for us, or medical professional spending hours during an emergency without much concern for his own hunger or thirst, or policemen and firefighters rescuing us from dangers without caring for their own lives, or parents feeding their children enough so that they're full-never mind that the parents go hungry to bed.
These concepts are extremely relevant because it is these which make up a fabric of society, which is cooperative and collective, and where individuals can think about caring/helping others without any sense of return from them. This makes the act of helping itself is satisfying, which cannot be compared to any tangible rewards
