Percent Error

Copper-Tin

Copper Aluminum

Copper-Iron

Copper-Zinc

Standard copper potential = 0.339 V

% Error = [100 – (Theoretical/Experimental)] x 100

Please help me complete the table above.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Cu + Sn2+ ---> Cu2+ + Sn

Eocell = 0.339 - (-0.010) = 0.349 V

Cu + Fe2+ ---> Cu2+ + Fe

Eocell = 0.339 - (-0.60) = 0.939 V

Similarly others are calculated.

For theoretical we use electrode potential values,

0.337 V Cu2+/Cu

-0.14 V Sn2+/Sn

-0.44 V Fe2+/Fe

-0.763 V Zn2+/Zn

-1.66 V Al3+/Al

Table below;

Cell type        Experimental potential(V)     theoretical potential(V)    percent error

Cu-Sn                   0.349                                      0.477                          26.83

Cu-Al                    0.539                                      1.999                          26.96

Cu-Fe                   0.939                                      0.777                          82.75

Cu-Zn                   1.349                                      1.100                          81.54
