In your own words, describe the difference between euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide.
Select an argument for or against either euthanasia or physician-assisted suicide.
How would you defend your argument?
Euthanasia
It describes to deliberately ending someone's life, usually in a terminally ill patient who has no chance left at all to come back in to normal life, to relieve suffering.
Physicians carryout euthanasia as per the pre requested consent of the patient to save him form agony or excruciating pain.
Physician-assisted suicide
It is a procedure performed by a doctor voluntarily to end one's own life with the direct or indirect assistance of a physician by using a lethal substance.
However both procedures has proponents and opponents. It's a highly debated subject and researched around the world.
The argument selected here is against Euthanasia
It is morally injustifiable to end someone's life no matter what reason behind it. It's nothing but killing, no matter whatever medical term we use to cover it up to look like a decent act.
Physicians has the role of healers, not the terminators of life. It seems most of the doctors are against euthanasia. In christianity it is considered as a cardinal sin. Also most religious groups oppose it.
Undoubtedly it is against personal dignity and intrinsic values of a human being. It is nothing but homicide. It is never necessary even less since the advent of palliative care.
The World Health Organization says that palliative care "intends to neither accelerate nor postpone death ." 90% of doctors working in palliative care in Canada oppose euthanasia.
It should be banned by law since there are many incidents reported globally that there has been abuse where euthanasia and assited suicide are legal.
To conclude, It is simply "The right to die implies a duty to kill".The act of euthanasia is neither easy nor peaceful. It is a difficult thing to do, and medical personnel is adversely affected psychologically.hence it is not beneficial for both physician and patient hence it must not encouraged.
