What is “process capability”? How can a firm generally improve process capability?
Process capability compares the output of an in-control process to the specification limits. The comparison is made by forming ratioof the spread between the process specification to the process values. A capale process is the one which comes under specification limits.Therea re two parts of process capability 1. determine the variability of the outcome. 2. equate that variabilty with a proposed specification.
A firm can improve the process capability by the help of following steps-
1. Identifying the problem and determine the focus of improvement.
2. After determining the focus of improvement ,ecide where the most waste is created
3.Coming up with alternative measures to improve the process capability by minimising the wastage.
4.Collecting the data and measuring the minimum waste and coming up with final measure.
5. Execute the programme which was measured in the earlier stage and analyse the final outcome and if not achieved the desired outcome then again do some modification untill the deired goal is attained.
