Conflict resolution through supportive confrontation strategy-
a) Identify the ownership of the problem - it is important to identify who owns the problem and to define what is acceptable and what is unacceptable. inner self reflection is also important because it helps in recognising a persons own behaviour.
b) Research and reflect - segregate facts from assumptions and perceptions. This helps in understanding if the problem is real or imaginary .A root cause analysis of the problematic behaviour is important. We need to know the motivation and underline reasons of the bahaviour.
c) Using the " 3 alternatives rule" select one of the following -
- change one's own attitude.
- change one's own environment.
- confront the person and discuss the problem face to face attempting to change their behaviour.
d) Rehearse - it is a kind of role play . rehearse the steps that you are going to take for conflict resolution as many times as possible.
e) Meet the other person to resolve conflict - This meeting is not about recomending solutions but to make the other person aware of your problems with them. try finding a common ground.
f) Follow through and follow up - try and work on the common goals that have been set in the meeting.some solutions may work in the long term , some solutions may work in the short term, if needed relook and rework on the goals.
