Describe Methods to Evaluate the Need for Change in How farmers deal with losses using the Kubler-Ross five-stage model – the Change Curve
The Kubler-Ross Change Curve can be seen as a model which includes the different stages or levels of emotions which can be experienced by an individual who is going to die in near future or a person who has survived an intimate death. This is a model which explains a model for representing the emotional states which are being experienced by both the person having a terminal illness and the loved ones of this person. This model has five stages which are as denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. This model is also known as 5 stages of grief.
These stages are as below:
Denial –Denial is the first step in this model. The individual and his or her loved ones think that there is some issue with the diagnosis.
Anger –When it becomes imperative that denial is no more possible, the frustration creep in particularly among those who are near and dear to the individual. They start to blame their fate and luck.
Bargaining –The third stage is mainly involved with the hopes that the reason of sorrow can be avoided and attempts are made to have an extended life by having some treatments.
Depression – The fourth step includes the despairs in the individual as he being to recognize the approaching death. The person can become quite, do not wish to meet visitors and want to spend time alone.
Acceptance – This stage the person loses hops and tends to become ready for the fateful incident.
This model can be applied in the farming industry as below:-
Let us consider that the farming industry is facing the issue of lesser yield.
Denial –In this step, the farmers will not accept that during this season, the yield is not going to be good and they will think that the predictions made are not correct and they will have a good harvest and good rain resulting in greater yield.
Anger –They start to blame their fate and luck. When the farmers start facing the truth, they will start becoming angry and try to find the spare goat and excuse for the lesser yield.
Bargaining – When the farmers realise that the prediction is going to be realistic, they will use more fertilizer, water and pest control chemical to protect and boost the harvest and minimize the losses.
Depression – After doing all the attempts, the farmers will accept that they will not have a good yield this year and thus they will accept the fact and will be ready for the things to come.
Acceptance – At this stage, the farmers will try to be alone and see his crop dying or being infected by pest and resulting lower yield.
