Need to understand The laboratory test for seawater desalination (RO) and how to deal with the waste of them?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Reverse Osmosis (RO) is membrane based technology which used for desalination of seawater . It works on principle of osmotic Pressure .It requires less energy as compare to distillation another desalination technology .

RO is not only used for getting drinking water but it also installed in order to get high purity water for other industrial purposes like pharmaceutical application, boiler feed water etc .

A general meaning of desalination is to get pure water from seawater.

while designing RO system no. of factors that should be considered are :

  • Source of feed water
  • Physical & chemical impurities in water
  • pretreatments
  • cleaning schedule etc

There is primary need of laboratory test for seawater desalination

As it can contain varied impurities at varied concentrations & for optimise working of RO we need to feed water with certain character & quality of feed.

to identify water impurities & their concentrations we need to use laboratory tests for seawater desalination .

we have no. of laboratory tests for desalination of seawater :

  • Turbidity of seawater can be tested or analyse by using Ultraturb seawater SC sensor
  • water conductivity can be analyse in laboratory test
  • traces of mineral oils in water Analysis

this analysis tests can be done in laborotories using difference sensors , titration methods etc.

To Deal With waste of RO

  • we can use waste water rejected by RO in houshold chores Or water for gardens.
  • Dewatering of RO reject can e done by using Mechanical vapor compression evaporators
  • The recovery of salts & valuable materials from brine is novel method of reducing environmental concern & It also serves problem of water desalination cost.
  • it can e used in electrodialysis technology research is going on developement of capacitive electrodialysis technology

A seaside community, with a population of 250,000 people, decides to build a seawater desalination plant to supply all of their water needs (approximately 70 liters of water per day per person). The proposed design models seawater entering the desalination plant as a 3.5% salt solution by mass, with a density of 1.029 kg per liter and an average temperature of 15°C. A concentrated brine (18.5% salt solution by mass) is discharged to the ocean as waste and the treated...

GREEN NEW DEAL 1.This deal states that we need to be net-zero global emissions by 2050. You saw a graphic on class Monday, showing how the U.S. could be 100% renewable by 2050.
