Leaders are the ones who always having the leading role. They always take the initiative. They develop the implementational plans and motivates people. A person who introduce changes is leader.
A person who has born having some traits but it is not always we say that the leaders are born. During the journey of life, the people learns from the surroundings or from the experiences which changes the qualities of the person. These may be social, legal, economic, environmental, geographical etc.
The theories such as trait or situational approaches to the leadership have the different focus.
The trait theory focuses on the traits and the behavior they exhibit. Some traits of the person which attract others are Charismatic, intelligence, self-confidence, integrity and determination. This theory actually states that the people who posses these traits are exceptional. This supports that the leaders are not made they are born. But in this there is no definitive list of personal traits exists which shows that the following traits must leader possess. Due to the large research, we have found that there are many number of traits present so we can not say that this particular trait makes the most effective leaderships. It does not take the situation in consideration. The focus is only on traits rather than situation so it is very tough to say that the leaders are successful.
The situational theory mainly focusses on the situations more than the leader. There are four types of leadership used in situational approaches:
As per the situation and readiness level of followers the leader selects the particular style. Here leader tells to the follower what to do next for becoming a leader. This leadership style actually adopted by the industry’s or businesses. This is adopted in work places. This approach also tells to the leader that for the successful what to do next exactly. Although it is affected by the age, experiences, Education, gender influence from each subordinate but it actually leads to the success ultimately. This teaches that how to real the goal if you are not born to be leader. The situation theory based on the situations which arises on the daily life or in workings so as the leadership styles which take care of it.
Hence, I do believe less that the leaders are born than they made. Over the time behavior of the people also changes so the traits.
