what do you understand by parttion values? write a short note on the role of parttion values in real life situations where these can be applied.
Partion are the values which divide the series into a number of equal parts. Like, the partion values which divide the series into four equal parts is called quartiles. The nine points which divide the series into 10 equal parts is called deciles. The partion values viz quartiles ,deciles and percentiles can be conveniently located with the help of a curve called 'cumulative frequency curve' or ogive.
The real life example can be: suppose in a class, we have list of students and their marks in statistics, then we can obtain the frequency table of this, using which we can get less than frequencies and plotting them on graph can give say the three quartiles which will divide the class into 4 equal parts on the basis of marks.
The important partion value called median which divides the series arranged in either ascending or decending order into two equal parts , is an important measure of central tendency. The quartiles are very popularly used in method of dispersions.
Another example,in a village we have age of persons and number of persons at that age, here we can find percentiles or deciles, which will divide data into 100 or 10 equal parts respectively .
