You are asked to prepare 500. mL of IV therapy solution, with a final concentration of the following solutes: 3.3 % dextrose and 0.90 % normal saline (m/v). How much dextrose and sodium chloride would you need to weigh to prepare the solution?

Solutions

Expert Solution

3.3 % detrose means 3.3 g dextrose per 100 ml solution

since we had 500 ml we need ( 500/100) x 3.3 = 16.5 g

now saline required = (500/100) x 0.9 = 4.5 g

Thus we dissolve 16.5 dectrose and 4.5 g saline in some water and later dilute solution to 500 ml mark. Thus we get required solution of 500 ml of required concentrations
