There are various health issues due to the environmental
pollution like the pollution caused by air, water, soil and
food.Firstly dealing with the air pollution, air pollution is
considered to be a mixture of chemicals, biological materials, and
particulate matter which reacts with each other to form tiny
hazardous particles. There are various health issues because of air
pollution like breathing problems, chronic disease, premature
mortality and increased hospitalisation .The air quality indicator
is the concentration of particulate matter(PM).The guidelines given
by world health organization recommends that the annual mean
concentration should not exceed 10m
per metre cube.It is considered to be associated with stroke, heart
and respiratory diseases, and cancer , and with maternal and child
health. The total number of deaths in Saudi Arabia in 2010 because
of ambient pm pollution was 8550,due to household air pollution was
1471, due to ambient ozone pollution was 66, due to second hand
smoke was 406, due to occupational air pollution was 42, and due to
radon and lead was 7 and 719 respectively whose total accounts to
be very high.Next talking about the problems caused by water
pollution, Saudi Arabia is not only the worlds top crude oil
exporter but also the biggest producer of toxic effluent that's the
byproduct of slaking the desert kingdom thirst for
water.Desalination in Saudi Arabia is the major cause for creating
huge volumes of chemical- laced brine that is risking and
contaminating the food chains because they are mostly
untreated.Because of this people are affected by water-borne
diseases like typhoid,cholera,paratyphoid fever, dysentery,
jaundice, amoebiasis and malaria.water borne diseases accounts for
squillions of deaths every year.Next talking about soil
pollution, soil is getting contaminated because of the underground
fuel leakage from gas stations in Saudi Arabia.Leakages and spills
that arises from underground fuel storage tanks (UFSTs) can
potentially contaminate soil and groundwater and can cause harmful
effects to public health and the environment. There are many
symptoms which appear in people who are in direct exposure to soil
contaminants like chest pain,fatigue,eye
irritation, rash, coughing, lung problems and nausea. There are also
long term diseases like cancer including leukemia which is caused
by the contact with soils contaminated with chemicals (e.g.
gasoline, benzene),nervous system damage which is caused especially
by the presence of lead (Pb) in soil, and affecting especially
children, neuro-muscular damage and depression of the central
nervous system, kidney and liver damage which is caused by chemicals
such as mercury (Hg).Food hygiene and problems related to food
borne outbreaks have become a matter of great concern for the food
producing companies and government and also for food supply
chains.Food pollution or contamination involving food poisoning has
raised alarm in Saudi Arabia.During the annual hajj pilgrimage in
2006 a group of Saudi Arabia soldiers were diagnosed of having
gastroenteritis which was caused because of following a rice lunch
which was contaminated with Bacillius Cereus and Clostridium
Perfringens.critical food control frauds, and infractions have been
spotted at restaurants inspected in different parts of Saudi
Arabia.
