List 5 sources of applicants that you consider to be the top sources organizations turn to when recruiting. For each source, identify needs specific to the source, as well as pros and cons of using the source for recruitment.
One of the sources of applicants can be seen as the outplacement offices which are there in the larger organization which are looking for downsizing. This method can be a very good source of manpower who have good exposure, experience, and KSAOs. The main demerit of this method is that there is a question of its reliability related to the quantity or quality of manpower. this is mainly because this source depends on the activity of downsizing by the firm which cannot be estimated accurately and it is a one time or sporadic incidence.
In order to have the future management manpower, the good sources are also the Co-ops and internships This is mainly an arrangement between the colleges, university, community colleges and vocational schools with the organizations. The main limitation of this method is its cost and time management. There must be someone who manages the program, supervise the training of candidates and manage the work environment so that trainees can be accommodated It also incurs the cost of the regular flow of temporary manpower in and out of the firm.
The workforce of any organization can be supported by the Contingent workers (i.e., temporaries, leased employees, and independent contractors) in order to fulfill the needs resulting from the short-term production increase or any other requirement which is of temporary or special nature and will require the addition of full time employee which is quite costly. The main demerit is the lack of commitment, devotion, and values by these types of manpower.
There are many other forms of employee arrangement such as computerized resume services, alumni associations, unemployed youth services, religious organizations, and interest groups. These methods can facilitate the unlimited number of candidates and applicants of specific requirements. This method is of special use if there is a close relationship between the employee nature within the source and the requirement of the organization.
Various direct methods such as direct mail, door hangers, and point-of-sale messages are also used. Such methods must be highly targeted or they quickly become cost-prohibitive.
