Human resource is the backbone of any organization. The success or failure of any organization depends on its human resource. Therefore the selection of personnel is one of the most important and integral part of the organization.

The selection procedure of a candidate in the organization has to be efficient enough, so that the candidate joining the organization helps in the growth of the organization. All organizations use different procedures in recruitment. But the object is same - to pick a right candidate.

The organisation can opt either the process of selecting a top-quality candidate or can train  the candidate according to its needs and environment in the organization. There is always a trade-off between these two procedures.

As selecting a top candidate requires rigorous selection process leading to high costs. It is general perception that top candidates comes from top institutes like MIT or Harvard, etc, The organizations has to offer high packages to top candidates requires to retain them. The top quality candidates requires some time to get adaptable in the organization.

The other choice of training a person after selection is a customized type of process, wherein the organization train the personnel as per its needs irrespective of the quality of the candidate. This process makes the person adaptive to the environment in the organization. The person gets prepared for the task after training which minimizes chance of failure.

Selecting a top quality candidate or training a person after selection has its own merits and demerits, the choice depends on the need of the company and the phase in which the company is. If the company is new like an startup, it can go for training of personnel which leads to low cost and more retention of the personnel. If the organization is well established like a blue chip company , it can go for top quality candidate selection as it can afford high salary packages.

It can be concluded that both the process are important for the human resource department which can lead to growth of the organization.
