Your company has just been awarded a project to renovate part of an existing occupied building. Your customer has stated that prior to starting work, all existing conditions are to be reviewed and a plan is to be developed off what you discover for how the work will be conducted so as to not interrupt/disrupt any of the existing occupants and their on-going activities. You decide to look to technology to help accomplish and expedite this task. Identify a technological tool to enable the accomplishment of the task. The technology tool to design and plan the space before starting off the work is the three dimensional geometric models in a Computer Aided Design (CAD) would be great help to meet the requirement. CAD is helpful in simulating the space requirements and also alters the Project Manager of any interference. CAD is the use of the software for creation, modification and analysis of a design. CAD is also used to determine the optimization of a design.
Advantage- The greatest advantage is that CAD helps to reduce human error. Accuracy and precision are the major benefits of using CAD. Additionally, the ideas or the plan can be saved and edited as required. Thus modifications can be made easily.
Disadvantage- The disadvantage of CAD is that CAD can be used only by trained professionals. Thus, adequate training is required for the personnel which involve cost.
How to mitigate the identified disadvantage. The organization can provide training in CAD to the Project Managers as part of career growth plans to enhance their project management skills. This helps the organization to mitigate inviting CAD professionals for the project which incurs high cost.
