rites "institutional ethics committees (IECs) should assess prospectively and retrospectively the ethical issues raised in competition, marketing, and managed care. They should review the ethical implications of competitions as it affects their patients, organization, and community". Consider yourself a member of the IEC. Identify two ways to ensure ethical issues are properly addressed.
The two ways to ensure ethical issues are properly addressed are-
=> Protection of the rights of the participants
The primary and foremost objective of the IEC should be the protection of the rights of the participants of clinical trials or medical research. IEC must ensure that the participants not only are aware of consequences of the research or trial but they also know there rights in the whole process. While conducting their review on research proposals, the members of the IEC should make sure that the there is documentation of participant awareness program, and there are provisions of providing relief to a participant in case of an untoward situation.
=> Adherence to compliance from all parties involved
The other important objective of the IEC is to ensure that all involved parties adhere to the strict compliance laid down by competent agencies before, during and after the completion of a medical research project. It should make sure that there are clear guidelines in the proposal for setting the liabilities in case of untoward scenarios. The members of the IEC during the review of the proposals must also ensure that there are regular check points and monitoring at different stages incorporated as an essential part of the project.
Thanks!
