Using the scientific method, design your own simple psychological research study and describe it. In your description, please identify:

1. What is your theory? What is your hypothesis?  Make sure your theory/hypothesis relates to psychology and involves human participants.

2. What kind of sample will you use? Why? How will you recruit them?

3. Which research design you’ll be using to test your hypothesis (experimental or correlational)? Why did you choose this design?

4. How you will split your participants into groups (if you are conducting an experiment)?

5. What are your independent and dependent variables?

6. How you will measure or manipulate your independent and/or dependent variables? What research methods might you use to measure any variables you intend to measure (e.g., observation,surveys/questionnaires, archival research)?

7. What will you do to make your study as generalizable as possible?

8. How you will minimize bias (e.g. observer bias and experimenter bias)?

9. How you will determine whether your hypothesis is supported or rejected?

10. What are the strengths and weaknesses of your study? Specifically what are the strengths & weaknesses of the research design and research methods you chose (from questions 3 & 6 above)?

Please note: If one of the above questions/concepts is not relevant to your study, the there is not need to include it (e.g., if you are using survey methods, there is no need to discuss observer bias).

Formatting Your Assignment: There are 10 questions listed above (labeled 1 - 10). Make sure you label each question as it is labeled above. For example - for question 3, label it as "3)", "3.", "Question 3" or something similar.

Expert Solution

Answer . 1. Topic- Effects of attachment styles and social support on the ways of coping with stress . Hypothesis - people having secure type of attachment and hifg social support will use positive ways of coping with stress. Hypothesis 2- people having insecure attachment style and low social support will use negative or avoidant ways of coping with stress.

2.Young adults will be the population target for this research . A survey using questionnaire method will be used in college .

3.Correlational research design will be used to see the relationship between the variables .

4. The participants will be splitted by half males and half females.

5. Independent variables - attachment styles and social support

Dependent variable- ways of coping with stress

6.For this research questionnaire method will be used to collect data for the research . Three questionairres will be used to asess three variables i.e. attachment style , ways of coping with stress and social support of each participant.

7. To make the study generalizable try and do the research on young adults belonging to different cultures .

9. The two hypothesis will be tested by using correlation merhod and regression analysis .

10. Strengths - there are very less studies on this topic , in this research different cultures will be researches so the results can be generalized as well , questionnaire method will be used and it will help me cover larger population at a time .

Weakness- participants may not fill the questionairre by properly reading all the questions , they may select options that are socially acceptable and not true for themselves , since there are three questionairres it will take time to fill each .

Introduction: Pill bugs In today’s exercise, we will be using the scientific method to study the behavior of the pill bug - Armadilidium vulgare. Pill bugs are also called woodlice and roly-poly bugs. They aren’t actually insects but belong to the subphylum Crustacea which means that they are more closely related to shrimp and lobsters. Pill bugs are found in a variety of habitats including forests, grasslands, and urban areas. They prefer dark, moist areas and are often found under...

The Scientific Method and Statistical Reasoning Using the tools of the scientific method and understanding statistical reasoning can strengthen our critical thinking. Answer two of the following questions to explore these issues: What misconceptions often rise around the idea of a scientific “theory”? What are the characteristics of good scientific theories? Where have you seen statistical data (or charts or graphs) used in a way that obscures critical thinking? Describe the issues and how you might correct these.
