Write about what college success means to you. How will you define success,and what strategies will you use to achieve success? Please write 300 words. Please cite in text research paper author and year.

Adopt a new mindset on learning: In high school, you can scrap your way through semester after semester by just learning the things that you have to know (to pass). Uni is very different. In uni, you get to learn about the things that you want to know.

Value perspective over information: One of the best parts about uni is that you will meet people that have lived in whatever subject you’re interested in. This is provides a unique opportunity to gain perspective, which is an important distinction from gaining information. Information is something you can immediately read out of a book or off a website; perspective is something that is gained through years of experience, and gives insight as to how something/someone will align with your values or goals.

Care less about your GPA and more about establishing your professional brand/identity: A lot of people will disagree with me here, but hear me out. Notice that in my introduction, I said that my friends and I all graduated with great jobs, but I didn’t say that we all graduated with super high GPA.

Surround yourself with a smart group of friends, who don’t necessarily study the same things you do: This one is self-explanatory but also crucial for proper development for multiple reasons. For one, after a 14 hour day of working, the last thing you will want to do is talk about your work. Having intelligent friends who study different subjects allows you to decompress appropriately while also maintaining a high level of conversation that can actually help you learn new things (whatever they’re studying).

Set achievable milestones and track results: It’s important to have high-level goals, especially in college. That being said, setting milestones allows you to break down seemingly huge goals into bite sized chunks that you can actually complete. This means having tangible action points for achieving each milestone, and ways to measure your work once you have completed it.

Be open to change, but to not indecision: If you think that you have any idea as to what college will be like, I can tell you now that you are wrong. You’re diving headfirst into a brand new environment, and there’s really no way you can accurately predict what is going to happen to you. You may realize that you hate the original subject you really thought you’d like. You may realize the student organization your family has been a part of for years just isn’t .

Take time for yourself and enjoy the ride: This last one, though cliche, is probably one of the most important points. You will need time to decompress and have fun, or you will drive yourself mad. Make time for fun, but keep your goals straight. An important note here is to know this does NOT necessarily mean going out and getting shit-faced every night (even though I have to say that I did it more than I would like to admit). It’s whatever you define as fun. You like hiking? Go on the weekends. You look painting? Take an art class outside of your uni. You like to party? Party
