Patient Profile: Patient is 59 years old with a current weight of 240 pounds; BMI is 41 (5’4’’tall). She is sedentary (no physical activity whatsoever) and works a desk job. She had a stress test recently and everything was normal. She states that she participated in a walking program last year but had to drop out after 3 weeks because she developed plantar fasciitis. She also states that the walking was pointless because she did not lose any weight during those 3 weeks.

  1. The client asks you why the company chose these 3 healthy changes for a reduction in premiums. How would you respond regarding the following questions asked?
    1. Why a 10% reduction in weight?
    2. Why do I need to exercise for 150 minutes or more per week?

a.This patient has a basal metabolic index of 41 and this means she is very much obese .With BMI of 41 she will find it hard to do basic activities .According to her height she should have a BMI within 26 which is healthy.Company is reducing premium in people who maintain a healthy weight because if you are healthy,you get sick less often.You don't need to see a doctor often as your immunity is high.There is less cost for company because this person rarely visit the hospital.If a person is not obese the risk of getting cerain disease like diabetes,heart disease,stroke is low.So for healthy person the premium will be low compared to a obese person.

b.In this patient reduction in 10% of weight changes her weight to 216 pounds.Her BMI will be 37.1 .Studies has shown that even 10% change in body weight can bring positive effects to the body:

1. Cholesterol reduction-Even a small change in weight can reduce the level of cholesterol and fatty triglycerides.

2.Cardiovascular Benefits:There will be reduction in cholesterol and in turn blood pressure will be reduced.The person will be at low risk or heart attack,artherosclerosis and stroke.

3.Reduce the risk of Diabetes:Studies have shown that obese people have high risk of getting type 2 Diabetes.Reduction in body weight reduce the risk of getting diabetes.

4.Reduce Cancer Risk: Obese people are at high risk for certain cancer like gall bladder,prostate,breast,kidney, and colon .Losing even 10% of your current weight reduce the risk of these cancer.

5.Improve the mental Health:In obese people chances of depression is high compared to lean people,Reduction in weight can make them more active and energetic.

c.One need to exercise atleast 150 minutes in a week to maintain good health.Being active help us to feel,think and sleep better.There are different types of exercise like aerobics,strength training ,and yoga .All this can help to reduce the weight.

Studies have shown that being inactive increase the risk of heart disease,type 2 diabetes,stroke and even early death.

Being active helps us to live a longer,healthier lives.Exercise helps to:

1.Improves the sleep .

2.Reduce the risk of stroke,heart disease,diabetes.

3.Improve the attention and memory.

4.Reduce weight and maintain the body weight.

6.Reduce the inflammation of the body and increase the immunity of the body.
