very important decision. Seven patients (A. - G.) need a heart
transplant. There is only one heart donor at this time. All of the
patients are eligible to receive this heart. All are physically
able. And all have compatible tissue and blood typing.”

A. 31 year old male; African American, brain surgeon at the height
of his career; no children
B. 12 year old female; Vietnamese; accomplished violinist;
blind
C. 40 year old male; Hispanic, teacher, 2 children
D. 15 year old female; White, unmarried, 6 months pregnant
E. 35 year old male; Hispanic; Roman Catholic priest
F. 17 year old female; White; waitress; high school dropout;
supports/cares for a brother who is severely disabled
G. 38 year old female; White; AIDS researcher; no children;
lesbian
The 31 year old patient though an eligible patient will have a difficult time to recover being in the height of career if operated .The life of surgeon is often stressful physically and mentally ,so a client with this status reduces the chance of getting transplantation.
The child is blind ,so there can be difficulties in physiological status this reducing the chance to get a transplant .Moreover the child are low to immunities risking their life for infection in these types of major opera and landing up in rejection .
The 15year old with pregnancy cannot be consider because of risking both lives
The 40 year old has responsibility of taking care of two children after surgery .This reduce the chance of transplantation
The 35year old Roman Catholic priests can get support from the spiritual group to get recovered from the operation
The 17year old cannot be provided chance because of taking care of the severely disabled brother. The cost of expense post operatively cannot be manageable by them
The 38year old lesbian who has no children and no great responsibility of caring of them can take care of themselves if operated .Being a researcher the socioeconomic status could be standard to afford the cost of post operative expenses. Also there is a partner to look after the surgery .So this patient can be selected for the transplant
