what is a Bubble Humidifier?. Which patient uses this device and what is the Literflow and FiO2 for this therapy?
While providing supplemental oxygen therapy to a patient, oxygen humidifiers are used to humidify the air, mostly in drier climates. These humidifiers help to make the dry air moist/wet, especially bubble humidifier is one type which provides long lasting mositure and utmost comfort for patients on oxygen therapy. For patients who require oxygen therapy due to various conditions like SOB, underlying lung/respiratory conditions, decreased oxygen saturation etc., its advisable to install a humidifier in order to increase the availability of oxygen in the room and relief from fatigue and uneasiness. A bubble humidifier is a disposable device which has a capillary system which warmups while circulating, releasing bubbles and humidifying the air. It provides additional oxygen therapy for flow rates at 2-6 liters per minute, with absolute humidity level between 15 and 20 mg/l. The fraction of inspired oxygen FiO2 is variable. Nasal cannulas 1L/min = 24% FiO2, each additional liter increases FiO2 by 4%. At flow rates equal to or greater than 4L/min, you can use a bubble humidifier.
