Research current change models used by organizations to facilitate change. Compare and contrast two models. Describe the overall approach and goal of each model. What are the similarities and differences?
There are various change models that the organization adopt before implementing a change. Two of the are:
1. Lewin's 3 stage model of change : Lewin's change management model involves three steps : Unfreezing, changing, freezing. According to him, in order to manage a change properly, the organization has to go through these three stages.
The first stage unfreezing involves making an awareness among the people about the people that is going to take place. The purpose of doing so is to make the people less resistant to change and will be able to prepare themselves for the change. the people are made aware how important and necessary the change is.
In the second stage the actual change takes plan. This is the stage where all the planing about the change are actually implemented. In this stage education, assistance, support are provided so that the people can accept the change.
The thirs stage refreezing is very important as the change gets stable. This step ensures that the people donot revert back to the previous state. Efforts should be made so that the change is maintained.
The second model is ADKAR model of change management. This model consists of Five stages. Awareness, desire, knowledge, ability and reinforcement.
Like the lewin model this model also belives that awareness is very much necessary to bring out the change, It can be communicated to the people why they need the change. Awareness about the change will create a sense of desire among the people to bring out the change. To bring out the change people must have the knowledge about it. the more they know the benefits from the change the more they will be able to accept it. Knowing about the change and implementing it are two different thing. To implement change required education, support and assistance should be provided. Lastly, like the lewin model this model also demands the change to be maintained.
