Why should a control station be observed at the start of a real-time kinematic survey? Thoroughly explain your answer.
The control station is observed at the start of a real time kinematic (RTK) survey because :-
(1) To surround the project area with RTK control station in order to achieve higher accuracy in construction projects.
(2) Control station is used to achieve high accuracy, such as positioning upto 1cm+1ppm accuracy rate.
(3) If control station is used as horizontal control than horizontal coordinates must be the same datum and epoch because datum and epoch are required for the project .
(4) If control station is used as vertical control than the height must be in same datum line as datum is required for the project.
(5)Control stations are used to control survey that uses RTK.
(6) To control the accuracy of horizontal coordinates and height which must have at least third order.
(7) To reduce mapping project by local variation.
(8) The GPS site calibration must be included in RTK control station to acquire accuracy.
(9) Control station myst be used for check shots if RTK equipment does not support GPS site calibration.
(10) Each new station must be occupied twice for third order RTK survey.
(11) Second base occupation of new station must use different base station location for its work.
(12) For second occupation the new station must have minimum three different satellites.
(13) To establish new station where obstruction such as electromagnetic fields, radio transmission etc are present.
(14) To reduce satellite geometry affects present in horizontal coordinates and height in RTK survey.
(15) The satellite geometry factor must be considered during RTK survey using control station to avoid error in survey.
(16) The errors can be removed by the use of base station, satellite available, rover etc.
(17) Control station are used to measure angles and distances for precise measurement to acquire accuracy in RTK survey.
