Chose any type of pollution
1_description of the pollution and its souces
2_ the effect of that pollution on the ecosystem
3_ Your own through of how to prevent it or reduce its effect.
Ans) Water pollution is defined as the incorporation of harmful and unwanted substances in the water bodies like ocean, rivers, lakes, ponds etc. The major source of water pollution is the oil spills from the ships, washing clothes and utensils,or even taking a bath near the water bodies can lead to water pollution. The industries like textile industries can pollute the water bodies when the waste products like dyes gets added into the water bodies.
Ans 2) Water pollution can drastically affect the ecosystem in many ways. The oil spills from the ships can result in the death of coral reefs and thus all the phytoplanktons, zooplanktons present in the water bodies. The addition of dyes from the textile industries can result in the accumulation of dyes in the bodies of fishes, and other aquatic organisms and this results in the biomagnification. When such fishes are consumed by the humans it can result in various diseases like minamata, arsenic poisoning etc.
Ans 3) The steps which can be taken to prevent water pollution is to avoid the spillage of oils from the ships, avoiding washing utensils and clothes near water bodies especially in some countries where this is common. The waste products from the textile and other industries should be first treated and chemically or biologically or physically converted to the forms in which it will not be toxic or harmful and then released in the water bodies. The usage of plastic or disposal of plastic in the water bodies should be prevented because if this plastic is ingested by the fishes and other aquatic organisms, it can even result in the death of these organisms.
