How does the concept of selective attention relate to learning?
Selective attention means reacting to one or more particular situation/stimuli when there are several stimuli taking place simultaneously.
So, when coming to learning, selective learning do take place depending on the area of interest. For example, the person who likes animals, may be the most attentive in the lecture of zoology, the one who's always interested in say story books, may find the literature class interesting. Then, learning becomes easier when we are interested in a particular subject, we tend to remember it easily.
Hence, while teaching it's important to grab student's attention and interest. Innovative teaching methods are hence important, children needs practical reasoning etc when it comes to learning. For example, there us a theory of photosynthesis which may not be interesting for all, but when the teacher demonstrates with a plant the entire experiment, the concept becomes interesting and selectibs attention also takes place which wasn't there during theory time.
