What does it mean to be a Child from different cultures?
This has come up many times in the discussion - but I thought I would dedicate a discussion to the topic..
From Tiger Moms of the Orange County - to absent parents letting kids raise themselves..
How does the culture the child is raised in effect the growth and development of the child?
A Child to be from different cultures means his values, belief, language, and religion, etc. is different from the domain culture. The culture of an Asian child would be different from the cultural values of an American child.
Culture is defined as a way of life it is customs, social behavior, a tradition that differentiates one group of people from others in society.
2. Ainsworth has classified parenting styles as, Authoritative, Authoritarian, Permissive, and Uninvolved parenting style.
The tiger mom is similar to the authoritarian parenting style strict and stern. The Tiger mom is defined as the mother who is strict with the child and wants them to be the highest achievers in their academic field; she wants the child to obey her. The child should use his spare time in studying and music.
The Asian mothers are often tagged as tiger mothers they are strict with their children and want them to excel in all the fields whether it is music singing or academic field. These children often achieve all these things under the tiger mothers' influence. But the recent studies show that the children who are incapable of achieving many things at a time go into depression.
This is an example of how the mother from the Asian culture is different from mother’s from Western culture, Western culture mother are not that strict with their children compared to Asian mother. These causes may be due to the cultural upbringing from generation to generation.
Absent parents are uninvolved parents, they do not care much about the child’s education and other needs, these children often found to be involved in anti-social activities because they are influenced by the peer group and as there is no guidance they grow-up on their own. Unless these children are guided and taken care they usually develop, depression and become alcoholics or drug addicts at an early age.
Every culture follows some traditions and customs these give rise to different pattern and behavior, it is how we think, behave, eat, use symbolic gesture, etc depends upon the shared values of the society, and every society is different from the other society because they follow different cultures.
The eating habits of an Asian child or a Chinese child would be different from each other. One will use hand to eat food, the other will use chopsticks and the American will use spoon and fork, these are the customs, and each child would follow his customs and traditions, while in communication different body gestures are having a different meaning in a different culture.
The child grows up following his culture and that becomes he life, faith, and traditions that he follows throughout his life.
