For an electron oscillating around a nucleus, where the
oscillation can be thought of as a mass m
attached with a spring,
a) Write down the equation of motion for an electron oscillating in
an applied electric field,
assume no damping. Use the formalism developed at the end of
Chapter 2 in Silfvast.
b) Using oscillatory solutions for the motion as well as the
electric field solve for the amplitude
of the motion of the electron as a function of time.
