Microorganisms are present everywhere in the environment and are involved in numerous natural process. They are the oldest form of life on earth present everywhere from boiling hot springs to the depths of ocean of Arctic. Also drug cycles which are important to the plant are operated by microorganisms. In addition to the environmental benefits, some microorganisms are also used to inhibit the growth of other harmful microorganisms and are known as Biocontrol organisms.

Some renowned activities of microorganisms done to the environment are:-

• Nutrient supply in the soil by the process of decomposition or biodegradation.
• Production of green house gases.
• Microorganisms are also responsible for climatic changes.
• They are involved in many biogeochemical cycles by breaking down the dead plants and animal tissues and leach out nutrients from them to the soil in order to support plant growth.
• In human body they helps n synthesizing vitamin K.
• They are also involve in nutrient cycling that make up living system.
• in some cases they are the primary producers of organic / cellular material by taking up carbon dioxide from the environment.
• Ntrogen fixation
• Oxygenic photosynthesis.
