According to Sternberg, what are the 3 types of intelligence? According to Gardner, what are the 8 types of intelligence? Be able to describe and give examples of each.
Sternberg definition of human intelligence is " a mental ability directed toward purposive adaptation to, selection and shaping of, real world environment relevant to one's life".strenberg proposed three types of intelligence: practical intelligence, creative intelligence and analytical intelligence that a human possess and named his theory as triachic theory of intelligence.
1. Practical intelligence- practical intelligence is the ability to relate and adapt to one's environment according to one's need. It involves the ability of an individual to deal with everyday task of one's life effectively. For ex- Gusy knows how to deal with arrogant people when she goes out late night.
2. Creative intelligence- creative intelligence is the ability of a person to relate to new and novel information and environment. It also involves a person's ability to apply existing knowledge to new situation. For ex- Batty always enjoys figuring out puzzles and come up with new solutions to problems. She also comes up with innovative solutions to problems in her life and others as well.
3. Analytical intelligence- it involves a person's ability to organize and analyze information. For ex- Ramo is highly effective in organizing and analyzing information and as a result she obtains high grades in her class.
Theory of multiple intelligence was developed by Gardner by suggesting that human beings posses different kinds of intelligence while limiting the idea of general intelligence. The eight kind of intelligence modalities proposed by Gardner are:
1. Visual spatial intelligence- people with this kind of intelligence are often good at maps, charts, directions and pictures. For ex- Architects, artists
2. Linguistic verbal intelligence- individual's with such type of intelligence are typically good at writing and speaking well. For ex- writers, lawyers, politicians
3. Logical mathematical intelligence- these people are good at reasoning, recognizing patterns, analyzing in information. For ex- mathematicians, scientists, engineers
4. Bodily kinesthetic intelligence- these individuals are good at bodily movements, coordination, physical control of bodily parts. For ex- dancers, gymnastics, sports persons
5. Musical intelligence- these individuals are good at dealing with the rhythms, patterns and sounds. For ex- musicians
6. Interpersonal intelligence- these individuals are effective in dealing and interacting with other people and in maintaining healthy relationships with others. For ex- salesperson, doctors
7. Intrapersonal intelligence- these individuals are aware about their own feelings, thoughts, emotions, and conflicts. Such individual are better at monitoring and regulating their own problems. For ex- Scientists, philosopher
8. Naturalistic intelligence- people high on this intelligence are more likely to explore nature and relate with other species. For ex- Biologists, farmers, forest workers.
