1. Under certain conditions, the substances nitrogen
monoxide and oxygen combine to form
nitrogen dioxide.
If 23.7 grams of nitrogen
monoxide and 12.6 grams of
oxygen combine to form nitrogen
dioxide, how many grams of nitrogen
dioxide must form?
grams nitrogen dioxide
2.Under certain conditions, the substance
calcium carbonate can be broken down to form
calcium oxide and carbon
dioxide.
If 22.3 grams of calcium
carbonate react to form 12.5 grams of
calcium oxide, how many grams of carbon
dioxide must simultaneously be formed?
grams carbon dioxide
3.
Write the net ionic equation for the precipitation of zinc hydroxide from aqueous solution:
4. Write the net ionic equation for the precipitation of
nickel(II) carbonate from aqueous solution:
5.The compound cobalt(II) acetate is a strong electrolyte. Write the reaction when solid cobalt(II) acetate is put into water:
6.The compound silver acetate is a strong electrolyte. Write the reaction when solid silver acetate is put into water:
From Law of conservation of mass, Mass of Reactants = mass of products.
1. Reaction is;
2 NO + O2 2NO2
Mass of NO given = 23.7g
Mass of O2 given = 12.5 g
Thus, total mass of reactants = MAss of NO + Mass of O2 = 23.7 + 12.6 = 36.3 g = mass of NO2 fromed
Thus, Mass of NO2 that must be formed = 36.3 g
2. reaction is
CaCO3 CaO + CO2
Mass of CaCO3 reacts = 22.3 g
Mass of CaO formed = 12.5 g
NOw, Mass of CaCO3 reacts = Mass of CaO formed + Mass of CO2 formed
22.3 g = 12.5 g + Mass of CO2 formed
Mass of CO2 formed = 22.3-12.5 = 9.8g
Thus, Mass of CO2 formed = 9.8g
3. Net ionic reaction is
Zn2+(aq) + 2OH- (aq) Zn(OH)2 (s)
4.reaction is
Ni2+ (aq) + CO32- (aq) NiCO3 (s)
5. cobalt(II) acetate is a strong electrolyte. Thus, it will dissociate into ions completely when we put it into water as:
Co(C2H3O2)2 (s) --> Co2+ (aq) + 2C2H3O2- (aq)
6. Similarly, The compound silver acetate is a strong electrolyte. when solid silver acetateis put into water, reaction is:
C2H3O2Ag (s) C2H3O2- (aq) + Ag+ (aq)
