WORLD WAR I - TURKS ON AMERICAN PEOPLE AS INTERNAL ENEMIES
INTRODUCTION
The Ottaman Empire came into World war I as one of the central powers. The Ottaman Empire entered the war by carrying out a suprise attack on Russia's Black sea coast on 29 October 1914, with Russia responding by declaring the war on November 5 1914. Ottoman forces fought the Entente in the Balkans and the Middle eastern theatre of World War I. The Ottoman Empires defeat in the War in 1918 was crucial in the eventual dissolution of the empire in 1921.
ENTRY INTO WORLD WAR I
Ottaman entry into the World War I was the result of two recently purchased ships in the navy, still manned by their German crews and commanded by their German admiral, carrying out the black sea ride on 29th October 1914. There were number of factors that conspired to influence the Ottoman government, and encourage them to enter into the war . The political reasons for Ottoman's Sultans entry into the war was disputed. And the Ottoman's Empire was an agricultural stage in an age of industrial warfare. Also, the economic resources of the empire were depleted by the cost of Balkan Wars of 1912 and 1913. The reasons for the Ottomans action were not immediately clear.
AMERICANS ENTRY
The American entry into World War I came in April 1917, after more than two and a half years of efforts to keep the United States out of war. While the country was at peace, American banks made huge loans to Britain and France , which were mainly used to buy munitions, raw materials and food across the Atlantic. The United States insisted on maintaining the traditional rights of ships registered in neutral countries and protested strongly: the British seized American ships, while the Germans sank them- often without warning, in violation of international law that said sailors must be allowed an opportunities to reach lifeboats.
CONCLUSION
World War I was a transformative period for the entire world, but espeacially for the United States, a nation still in its political and cultural infancy compared to the old empires of Europe. The war brought America onto the global stage in a way never experienced. While U.S international relations has been mostly related to engagements with its neighbours to the South and solidifying of relations with Europe.
