Describe the conceptual peg hypothesis. As examples, use the experimental results from the presentation of concrete vs. abstract noun pairs. Explain the paired-associate learning task, and provide examples of stimuli that had high recall in the task.
Conceotual peg hypothesis, is hypothesis that would be explaining the dual coding. This theory explains that the processing of verbal as well as non verbal informations, which would be processed in different systems, which would be separate but related. An evidence is the use of different representations that the brain does, for a simple word such as tree. This shows that a verbal stimuli would be developing a non verbal imagery response. Also, a word circle, would be bringing the picture of a circle in the mind. There are certain psychologists, who think that this theory would Ali be explaining memory as well as intelligence of a person. Critics depict that the processing in the brain would be occurring through one type of representation.
Abstract nouns are the words that do not form s concrete image. Abstract things would be existing only in the mind, whereas, concrete nouns are the ones that form images in mind. For example relationships are abstract nouns, such as anger, confusion, fear, pleasure, and concrete nouns such as trees, chocolate etc.
