Compare the use of RTI as a method for identifying learning disabilities to at least one other method, such as the ability achievement discrepancy model. Identify which method you prefer, and explain why. Finally, briefly explain how RTI can be used as a method for preventing learning challenges in students who are at risk.
RTI or Response To Intervention is a pretty new model which intends to identify, assess and intervene learning disabilities in children. Another such model which has been used from an earlier times is the Ability Achievement discrepancy model. There are certain differences between these two models and the main differences can be discussed below:
It can be said that the RTI technique is better as it can be used for all children and it takes into account every children of the classroom and thus, leads to an overall development.
In RTI, basically the teachers and trainers uses certain intervention questions and tools to help all students who are having an issue with certain lesson or skills. There are three tiers which are mainly kept in consideration. When the children is able to respond to the first tier interventions and he is learning the skill, it can be said that there is no learning disability risk present. If some children are not able to respond to these interventions then some disability can be assumed and tier 2 intervention can be applied and when some children doesn't respond to tier 2, tiee 3 interventions are applied. The children in these tier 2 and 3 stages and basically identified as having learning disability and their parents and teachers are suggested to take helping services for them.
