Explain how a stigma might affect children with learning disabilities and their families. Include at least one perception that families might have about themselves or about their child as a result of stigmatization. Describe how that perception might impact the child's development in a specific way. Finally, suggest at least one strategy for promoting positive identity development in response to this stigma.
Stigma affects the children who have learning disabilities and also affects their families as people around them as having a learning disability tends to labelize the children with their learning disability and others around them start to view them differently
People often behave differently while dealing with kids who have a LD and that adds up to the stigma and makes a child feel that something is wrong with them
Sometimes parents who have children that got diagnosed with LD tend to prevent from labeling their child but it adds onto another layer of issues as the child feels that parents are being so secretive and discrete, something might be wrong with me
A lot of people feel that people with LDs are actually lazy and don't put in any efforts and trust me it adds onto the stigma
The only way to prevent stigmatization of Lesrning Disabilities is to openly discuss about it with people around you, talk with the child's teachers and school, provide them with all the support, special education and therapy for them to become better and more knowledgeable. It is high time people start using people first language and also not judging others on the basis of their problems
