In the RMON hostTopN table (20.14.1.4 Host Top N), the agent does all the report-building work. Would it be possible for the manager to do this? If not, why not? If so, why do you think RMON provides this table?
RMON(Remote Network Monitoring ) monitors Network Traffic to dtetect network Issues like dropping of packets,
collisions in the network and network congestions problem. It assists network adminsitrators with efficient management
system.Basically RMON works trough agents which may be hardware or software tools which is embedded into a
network device such as router or switch.
Basically there are two versions of RMON they are as follows:
RMON1: It is a combination of 10 Management Information Base which inculdes Host Top N( which keeps tracks
of number of active connection in a aspecific time frame.)
RMON2: It basically focusses on Higher traffic layers
Basically It is not possioble for the Manager to do this sort of activities while managing the network for which
the Host Top N table has been provided. Now we will see the details of providing Host Top N table.
The Host Topn N Table provides ranks to the traffic based on the Packet rate bteween them and in both directions
which is then filtered by Network Protocols such as IP, IPX etc.
The Host Top N table contains the following details:
1. Address of the Source
2. Address of the destination
3. Name of the source Host
4. Name of the destination Host
5. Protocols
6.packet Rate
7.octet rate
This table shows rate and volume of the hosts who exchange the higest volume of data in a particular interface
