Water-soluble vitamins participate in all of the following functions except
Group of answer choices
blood formation.
acting as antioxidants.
maintaining the nervous system.
lipid metabolism.
Water soluble vitamins include Vitamin B complex and Vitamin C participate :
a) Blood formation : Blood formation also known as Haemopoesis. There is no vitamin that involve in the blood formation but involve in the formation of one of the blood cells i.e red blood cells like Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) helps its deficiency leads to sideroblastic anaemia, Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) its deficiency leads to pernicious anaemia and Folic acid (Vitamin B9).
b) Acting as antioxidants : Vitamin C is powerful antioxidant that have an ability to provide hydrogen atom and form relatively stable ascorbyl free radical
c) Maintaining the nervous system : Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) is used for the erythropoiesis and growth of nervous system.
d) Lipid metabolism : Vitamins like pantothenic acid, niacin and riboflavin transform into coenzymes and thus involve in the lipid metabolism.. Vitamins like B12, Folic acid and Vitamin C influence lipid metabolism through different mechanisms.
