i want a definition on lipids trans fats and hydrogenation what they do and there formulas
LIPIDS : They are macromolecules made from fatty acids momers. Example - fats , waxes , phospholipids etc .
Lipids are esters of fatty acids . i,e they are formed by reaction of an alcohol and Fatty carboxylic acids.
There are three functions of lipids :
They are non polar in nature and are insoluble in water .
TRANS FATS : An unhealthy substance that is made through the chemical process of hydrogenation of oils. They are unsaturated in nature.
They increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases and increases the LDL ( bad cholesterol ) and decreases the level of HDL ( GOOD CHLOESTROL ) .
HYDROGENATION - Hydrogenation is a reduction reaction which results in an addition of hydrogen (usually as H2). If an organic compound is hydrogenated, it becomes more "saturated" with hydrogen atoms.
