The group is a union of people having the same ideas, beliefs & values. Being a part of the group both formally & informally way we do expect some benefits after joining the group such as:

1) Having a good interpersonal relationship with people in the group.

2) One can get the chance to share his/her ideas with others.

3) One can get the opportunity to get to know about others in a better way, their ideas, beliefs, & values.

4) Being a part of the group enhances your knowledge & provides you a different perspective to look around in the world.

5) One can share his/her responsibilities or work with others in the group.

6) one can have more strong relationship with people in the group.

7) One can share the resources of the group.

8) One can receive more respect, acceptance & warmth being a part of the group.

9) One cannot feel lonely or left-out being a part of the group.

10) One can feel good & overall satisfied being a part of the group.

We, humans, are social beings we do enjoy the company of others or being a part of the group. We always form groups to have a sense of belongingness. Like, group of friends, colleagues, teachers, peers, boys, girls, etc.

We do join a group with some sort of expectations sometimes it gets fulfilled or sometimes it might get partially filled. So, its totally depends upon the quality & nature of the group. Stronger the bond better fulfillment of expectations or vice-versa.
