Translation is the process of protein synthesis that uses mRNA which is product of transcription. The process is divided into three steps:
1. Initiation starts with smaller subunit of a ribosome combining with mRNA. The tRNA carrying the amino acid methionine forms a hydrogen bond with mRNA at the start codon, AUG. This is followed by joining of both units of ribosome along with the mRNA molecule. first tRNA binds with initiation codon of mRNA.
2. Elongation occurs when new tRNA carrying an amino acid binds at site of next codon at the ribosome.the codon is complementary to anticodon of tRNA. Ribosome joins the two amino acids together by a peptide bond. The ribosome then moves to the next codon and a new tRNA carrying an amino acid arrives at the ribosome and the cycle continues.
3. Termination occurs when the ribosome reaches one of the three stop codon i.e UAA or UGA or UAG.these stop codons do not have any corresponding tRNA. So rekease of chain starts with help of special factors.
At end all components of the complex separate.
