How to use recombinant DNA to grow a tomato plant in the desert? Please use specific vectors/plasmids used and your method of getting the DNA into the cell.

Solutions

Expert Solution

To grow tomato plant in desert i.e. in water stress area we have to change plant’s genetic makeup to adapt this stress condition. Every plant have its own adaptation system but at extreme condition we have to use recombinant DNA or other responsive genes insert in target plant. Any genes are know now a days which are used to increase water stress response in plant such as DREB( Dehydration responsive element binding protein), aquaporin(aquaporin is a water channel proteins of plasma membrane) etc. which help over expression of responsible proteins and help plant to adapt in stress condition

Vectors/ plasmid such as Ti and Ri plasmid of Agrobacterium as mostly used in genetic transformation other vectors such as pARC8, PBR 322, pAHC27, pEmuKN, pR11F,

pGreen002, pBract 302, pMLH7133, Pu912, pGFP35S, pWBvec10a, pKYLX80 , pCAMBIA2300

methods used for transformation such as agrobacterium mediated transformation, particle bombardment, electroporation and microinjection etc.
