Below is how effective leadership and motivating people are related -
Effective leaders not only take critical strategic decisions for the firm to develop it but also motivate and encourage the employees towards individual as well as organizational development.
Below are the examples of how leaders can build trust among the employees through effective leadership -
1. Being open and transparent in keeping people informed of important business decisions
Example - Key changes to the processes due to the implementation of a new technology that will automate the process etc. for which the employees might need to be prepared and need to take training to handle the new process effectively.
2. Fairplay in dealings
Example - Leader needs to give credit when an individual is consistently performing better than his peers and superiors while he needs to suggest the developmental areas for people who are not performing well.
3. Conveying what a leader feels
Example - The leader needs to express his feelings or concerns on how the project is going rather than just mentioning the facts. He should be clear in highlighting how the team is faring and what can be done better for achieving the desired results in the future.
4. Tell the truth
Example - Leader should be a role model and should always set example of honesty by revealing the truth irrespective of whether it is hard to digest or not. Example is when a leader has to let the followers know of the honest feedback from client.
5. Be consistent
Example - Avoid taking too many turns and be consistent in what needs to be done. Example can be that a leader should highlight an issue and clearly point out rootcauses while sticking to an approach of resolution for similar issues.
6. Fulfill the promises
Example - Consider a leader has promised on providing a development opportunity for an individual who is performing well. Though the project is completed and the individual moves into another project led by a different manager, the leader should ensure he provides the opportunity to the individual though he doesn't work with the leader anytime soon.
7. Maintain confidences
Example - Consider an individual has discussed with the leader on a personal issue which is resulting in a low performance and requested for a suggestion while keeping the information in confidence. The leader should keep the confidence and avoid discussing the same with other individuals while helping the individual in improving his performance.
8. Demonstrate confidence
Example - A leader should demonstrate confidence with a sound knowledge on the task related and technical aspects of the work. He should take an advisor role when the team is stuck with issues and provide them the motivation and moral boost to proceed.
