long term care industry- long term care is a variety of services which help meet both the medical and non-medical needs of people with a chronic illness or disability who can't care for themselves for long period. long term care industry provide rehabilitation, restorative and ongoing skilled nursing care to patients or residents in need of assistance with acitity of daily life. long term care facility include nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, long term chronic hospitals etc.
Regulation of long term care industry- both the federal and the state government regulate the long term care industry. regulation generally fall into two category- quality of the care and reimbursements . the consumers have the right to receive high quality of care and payers need to be assured that the services for which money was expended is of high quality. in case any deficiencies are identified in the long term care facility then state agencies take responsibility for enforcing the action, to make sure that LTC ( long term care facility) deal with problem and are in compliance. .
for eg. regulation in nursing home facilities-nursing facilities are highly regulated at all levels of the government to ensure that the care received by consumers is accessible, safe, high quality, and also obtained at low cost. regulations are very complex and needs proper care before implementing. . the federal and state regulation gives specific requirements about staffing, taining, prevention of abuse and neglect, reporting poor quality services etc. quality improvement organizations and long term care ombudsmen are also appointed to check and report if the nursing home is following the regulations or not. if regulations are not being followed then strict actions are taken.
