  • Eventhough some people do get effectively treated with medication but it does have its adverse effects as well.Using only drugs for treatment especially in psychological disorders like depression, can increase the relapse rate in the future. And also long term usage of drugs can produce severe side effects in patients. These side effects can be physical and include fatigue, blurred vision, gastric disorders, headaches, dizziness, sexual dysfunction, risk of cardiac disorders, and weight gain.Apart from medical symptoms, some pharmacological treatments can also increase psychological symptoms such as anxiety, suicidal ideation, and even increase suicide attempts.
  • While prescribing drugs for mental health problems may have a short-term palliative effect, drugs don’t obviously help people to change the way they think or change the socioeconomic environments that might be a root cause of their psychological problems.
  • The most effective way to treat psychological disorders is use combination of both therapy and drugs,Therapy will provide long term benefits to the mental health, whereas medications can help to control to short term symptoms.
  • Depression is most common mental illness being faced by people today, having nehagtive thoughts, overthinking, worrying for small things, being dissatisfied with life, societal pressures are all making people depressed. But even the most severe depression is treatable by using effective therapies and medications.Cognitive behavioural therapy can help patients reframe their negative thinking patterns and employ behavioral skills in combating depression. It can also help to find the root cause of the problem, helping the patient to understand that why exactly they are feeling depressed and with the help of therapist find ways to deal with it.If its severe depression, then medications like antidepressents can be used.
  • Medication may help relieve some of the symptoms of moderate and severe depression, but it doesn’t cure the underlying problem, and it’s usually not a long-term solution. Antidepressant medications also come with side effects and safety concerns, and withdrawal can be very difficult.
  • Only medications doent help in treating depression, lifestyle changes and therapy not only help speed recovery from depression, but also provide skills to help prevent a recurrence.
